Mercedes SLS Black Series spied


These pictures are proof that Mercedes is on a hardcore 208 hours miles Black Series version of his work SLS AMG supercar. The powered-up and stripped down Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series, spied here in testing for the first time at the Nurburgring is to go on sale in 2013, costs about 50 percent more than the 'standard' £ 168,395 gullwinged coupe.

Autocar understands the decision, a Black Series version of the SLS make as far back as 2006, when the development of the standard AMG super sports car was first started. The Black Series' dramatic body, including a large fixed rear wing, front splitter, rear diffuser and additional cooling on the hood and a wider track for the first time a preview of the SLS GT3 race car at the 2010 New York Auto Show.

AMG engine boss Friedrich Eichler said in 2009 that "there will be much more" even from the SLS 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 563bhp and 479 pounds-feet in the standard car.

Mercedes insider revealed that outputs ft probably around 600 hp and 500 pounds in the Black Series are. A larger air manifold, higher compression and reprofiled camshafts are among the expected improvements. A mechanical limited-slip differential is also tipped to be beefed Black Series as part of upgrades and the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox up to handle the additional torque to be absorbed.

These performance upgrades, as well as a 50kg reduction in curb weight and improved aerodynamics package, is expected to lead to a 0-62mph time of 3.5sec and a top speed of 208 mph. The standard SLS can crack 0-62mph in 3.8sec and reach a top speed of 197 mph.
